I’ll Be Gone In The Dark, by Michelle McNamara
I’ve been on my library’s wait list for the audio book for this for months and it finally came through. I’m not usually super big on true crime, although I do read a little, but this one was so hyped given the developments in the case, so I thought I’d check it out.
Frederick Douglass: Prophet of Freedom, by David W. Blight
I’ve been working my way through this one since like mid-June. Granted, I’ve been reading other books as well, so it’s not like I’ve been devoting my full attention to it, but it’s very long and very dense. I don’t necessarily mean that in a bad way; it’s very well-researched and interesting, it’s just… a lot.
Josh and Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating, by Christina Lauren
This is an ARC I got through my book club’s blogging program. It’s a cutesy romance, which is not my usual thing, but it’s okay. It’s trying way too hard to play up the quirky, hot mess thing that Hazel has going on, in my opinion. Eccentric is one thing, but this girl is a veritable cartoon character.

A Higher Loyalty, by James Comey
I have my issues with James Comey, but this was an interesting read. Whatever you think of his decisions, it’s interesting to get the inside perspective and understand his motivations and thought processes.
Battle Royale, by Koushun Takami
I’ll probably have a full review of this up later this week, but it was just… eh. I think part of my issue with this book is that the translation wasn’t great; it felt awkward and clunky at times that felt like clumsy translation rather than poor writing in the original, but that’s speculation on my part. And lord, the romance… and passage after passage of who’s crushing on whom. Really? You kids are in a battle arena to the death and you’re fixating on this? I don’t get it.
The Favorite Sister, by Jessica Knoll
Read my review here. I’m still not a huge fun of Jessica Knoll, but I thought this was stronger than her last novel, Luckiest Girl Alive, although Luckiest Girl Alive has a slightly higher average rating on GoodReads. Interesting.

I’m super excited about this one. I’m trying to squeeze it in before my book club’s July pick, which I have to read by Monday.
The War of the Words, by H. G. Wells
Because the last H. G. Wells I read was The Time Machine, way back in 8th grade.
The Curious Charms of Arthur Pepper, by Phaedra Patrick
This is my book club’s pick for the month. It’s been drawing a lot of comparisons to A Man Called Ove, but I don’t know if that’s any indicator of its quality or just the fact that they both have an old, recently widowed man as a protagonist.
