WWW Wednesday 08/08/2018

Welcome to another WWW Wednesday! This meme is hosted by Taking on a World of Words. To participate, just answer the following three questions:
What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

So, let’s begin!

I’m currently reading…

I received an ARC of Nightingale through NetGalley. It’s a YA horror novel set in the 1950’s. This one’s a flop so far for me.

I’ve been meaning to get to The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo for ages, and I’m so glad I finally made time for it. I’m absolutely loving this book.

One of Us is Lying is described as “The Breakfast Club meets Pretty Little Liars,” and that feels pretty succinct. I’m almost done with this one and it’s pretty enjoyable so far, if a bit cheesy.

I recently finished reading…

I had a pretty busy reading week, apparently, and it was a rather good one. I think the biggest flop of the week for me was On Burning Mirrors (which was pretty disappointing because I was excited about it in terms of representation) but even that one I rated 3 stars, so I didn’t read anything truly awful this past week.

The Dinner List and The Book of Speculation will be up at a later date.

Up next…

The Woman in the Window is the next of my Book of the Month books I’m planning to read. I’ve seen pretty much unanimously positive reviews for this one, so I’m excited to get into this thriller!

I adore Roxane Gay, and I was lucky enough to find an autographed copy of Hunger in a bookshop a while back. (The downside is that now I’m scared to lug it around with me and mess it up while I’m reading it, so thank god for audio books through my library!)

What are you reading this week? Any thoughts on the books listed in this post?  Please feel free to discuss or share WWW links in the comments!

  1. I loved One of Us Is Lying. Some people complained that it was cliche and whatnot, but i didn’t care 😀

The Woman In the Window was also pretty good! Kind of a slow burn, but i really enjoy those.

    1. I feel like One of Us Is Lying is cliche, but self aware about it, you know? It kind of pokes fun at itself about it (“you guys are walking teen movie stereotypes,” “it’s like a bad spy movie,” etc.). It’s a fun book. 🙂

    1. The Dinner List was decent, but not remotely what I expected. From the blurb, you’d expect a cute, light read, but it got pretty dark and emotional. Worth reading, just not at all what you think it’s going to be.

      1. Thanks for the heads up! I try to balance my current reads by having one cute/fun book per every heavy/dark book I read, and now I know which pile that one belongs in.

  2. I’ve been meaning to pick up One of Us is Lying, I get a We Were Liars vibe from it and it sounds pretty good. I also want to check out Roxanne Gay’s writing, particularly Ayiti as I’ve heard so many wonderful things about it.
